Reyna on King

I was so happy that this August was filled with delicious baking projects and I blogged about them all! I also went to a few new (to me) places that I loved. Here’s what was happening:

  • My friend Heather is moving to Hamilton, so I spent a bit of time there early in the month helping her check out some apartments, and having some good eats along the way. We stopped into Donut Monster where I had the most delicious Brown Butter Walnut Donut, and we split a #HAMONT Cream Filled one as well.
  • We figured we should have some actual food that day, so we also went to Mesa before heading home. I had the best chicken enchiladas, plus some guac & chips, and will definitely be making a return trip here, now that Heather will be so close by.
  • I started a Cupcake Club at work to raise money for a fundraiser and it was a huge success! I told my team I would bring in a dozen cupcakes every other week for 5 weeks and they could buy 1 cupcake for $5, or get all 5 cupcakes for $20. I sold 8/12 spots on pre-orders and have been having so much fun bringing these in and delivering cupcakes to everyone. The five flavours are: Strawberry Lemonade, S’mores, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Salted Caramel and Rainbow Sprinkle.
  • When I was looking on Jan’s blog for her Corn & Zucchini Risotto recipe (more on my feelings about zucchini here), I was reminded of her cheater Aperol Spritz recipe, and mixed up a few for myself on my balcony this month. It’s so simple: fill a big glass with ice, add a shot of Aperol and then fill the glass with Orange La Croix. So good.
  • My friend Lusina is having TWINS and her baby shower was high tea at The Windsor Arms! We had some very tasty scones, clotted cream and jam, and of course drank tea with our pinkies out.
  • I met up with Sarah & Jen at Reyna on King and had the best time! First of all, the space is gorgeous (see the picture above) and I was LOVING all the greenery hanging down from the ceiling. We had some fantastic sangria, plus a bunch of little snacks to share and it was a great way to close out the summer.
  • Finally, no one really needs a recipe for Tomato Toast, but I saw this one on Twitter and couldn’t stop eating it for an entire week. We have a farmer’s market pop-up near work every Tuesday, and I grabbed a delicious cheddar and chive sourdough to toast, slather with garlic mayo and top with thick slices of juicy ripe tomatoes and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt. Summer bliss right there.

Other non-foodie things I was obsessed with this month:

  • Obviously Kristine and I were there for the opening night of Hobbs & Shaw and it did NOT disappoint. What a crappy summer for movies overall though! Besides this, the only other movies we watched in the theatre were Booksmart (which was more of a Spring movie, but we were delayed seeing this because of the Raptors deep run to the Finals), Dark Phoenix and Spiderman: Far From Home.
  • I really had a bad month for books too, and didn’t like How Could She or Never Have I Ever. Fingers crossed for better reads next month.
  • I did watch some great TV though this month: the new season of Veronica Mars was so great (but sad), the third season of GLOW is set in Las Vegas which was so fun, and finally Danielle recommended Escape at Dannemora which I binged over two days.
