Happy New Year! I promise I did leave my home in January, but not that much! I mostly cooked at home, and made a lot out of the new Ambitious Kitchen Cookbook (which I got for Christmas). I did venture out for one special brunch and a delicious dinner that have to be documented here:
- Krishna was home from Hong Kong for a work trip, so Jen and I introduced her to Kerr Street Cafe, where we had a fantastic brunch (pictured above). I had the most gorgeous Avo Toast with tons of fresh herbs, and the girlies had the Brekky Sandwich and Cornbread Florentine. I don’t know why I don’t go here more often!
- Jess and I went to The Haifa Room after a trip to the AGO (more on that below) and shared an incredible dinner. My favourite thing about eating out with Jess is she will usually let me order whatever I think looks good for us to share, and this time that was: Falafel, Broccolini Labneh, Muhammara and Pita, and Loaded Eggplant. So obsessed with everything.
- Here’s my regular recipe round-up for the month:
- Stuff I made from the archives: Sweet & Sour Meatballs, 5 Cup Salad, BBQ Salmon Tacos
- Some of my favourite go-to dishes: Butternut Squash Frittata (I can’t believe I haven’t blogged this yet), Whole Wheat Pizza (with Butternut Squash, Apple and Caramelized Onions), Chickpea Noodle Soup (with homemade stock!), Brussels Sprouts Caesar Salad (with Butternut Squash, Apple, Maple Pecans and Tahini Dressing)
- New things that I tried and liked: Harvest Couscous Salad (basically the winter version of this Kale & Couscous Salad that I LOVE)
- Homemade Snacks: Peanut Butter Oatmeal Energy Bites, Carrot Cake Breakfast Cookies
- Things I made from The Ambitious Kitchen Cookbook: Hot Honey Salmon & Gochujang Brussels Sprouts, Butternut Squash Pasta, Sticky Orange Tofu Stirfry
Other non-foodie things I was obsessed with this month:
- The Art Gallery of Ontario had a exhibit on called The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century which Jess and I went to check out after work one day. I loved it, and totally got upsold to an annual membership, so I’ll be back at the AGO soon.
- My primary reading project for January was to read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, as my friend told me it would enhance my experience reading James. I made it, with the help of a Coles Notes style online reading guide (lol) and I can’t wait to read James in February.
