After consuming sugar all day long, we deposited ourselves at Pizzeria Libretto, anxious to consume some actual food and rest our weary feet. We arrived just as the restaurant was re-opening after being closed for a few days for some renovations (and a fresh coat of paint by the smell).
BlogTO rates Libretto as their #1 pizza, and I definitely brought them a tough critic. Calgary has some pretty amazing pizza spots, and Danielle’s eaten at just about all of them. She also introduced me to the best pizza in St. John’s last year, so she had some high standards.
Before we got to the pizza, we had some warm buffalo ricotta with fresh oregano and crostini. It was absolutely delicious, and it felt so good to consume some carbs to balance out all the sugar from the day’s activities. We then each devoured a margherita pizza and they were gone in a flash. It’s everything you could ask for: chewy crust, fresh tomato sauce, bubbly mozzarella and basil. I would just add a note that we arrived at 5:58 and were the first ones seated; by 6:30 every table was full. Libretto doesn’t take reservations and is notorious for it’s long lines. Plan accordingly!
Although we had some blisters on the go, I asked Danielle if she wanted to make a Bonus Stop on the Toronto Tour of Treats after dinner. She was game, so we headed up to Bestellen, to continue our stalking of Top Chef Canada Season 1 contestants.
We had every intention of just sitting at the bar, having a cocktail and staring at Rob, but then we noticed the desserts on the chalk board, and it was all over. The very last thing we ate, on this very long test of sugar endurance, ended up being the very best thing of the entire day.
Warm yeast doughnuts, filled with chocolate ganache, sitting on peanut butter mousse, with raspberry preserves. Are you KIDDING?
Oh, and the bartender informed us that the pastry chef had just picked the raspberries herself the day before.
Game Over.
The End.
Excuse me while I fix myself another spinach smoothie.

Maybe you forgo the condo and move down here, we would love it!
Btw, right next door to the pizza place is the bast Portugeese grilled chicken place in town. Delicious and pretty cheap, too. It’s my go-to place when I don’t have a dinner ready. If u go, on the side, get half rice – half potatoes, it’s perfect combo.
