February went by in flash, which was a surprise as it’s normally a slow slog of dreary winter weather and depression. I was still in a bit of hibernation mode, but had one pretty epic foodie adventure:

  • I already wrote about the cupcakes at my cutie little Galentine’s Day party, but I also made a batch of My Favourite Sugar Cookies in the style of conversation heart candies, which I’ve probably wanted to try for at least ten years since I saw it on Annie’s Eats. The red detail bled a little bit into the icing underneath, but other than that I loved the way they turned out.
  • Heather and I went on a Hamilton Tour of Treats, that started out at Dear Grain, which I’m obsessed with. I got a loaf of classic sourdough (which I love for avocado toast) and a loaf of multigrain sourdough (which I love for PB&J), plus a sourdough cheddar kale scone (unreal) and a sourdough ube cookie. Next up was Artie’s which I purchased a mini loaf of rosemary focaccia, and a cheddar and za’atar focaccia and had to restrain myself from getting more! Our final stop was Bardo (formerly known as Earth to Table: Bread Bar) where I kicked things off with an amazing Lemonjade cocktail (tequila, mint, lime, lemonade and tonic water). We then shared the crispy brussels sprouts appetizer (with thin apple slices, black sesame seeds and a sweet & spicy gochujang sauce, a beet and goat cheese salad and a princess pickle pizza (weird, but good). Everything was amazing!
  • I wanted to make something with a wow factor for my co-worker’s birthday, so I made these Cookie Dough Cupcakes, complete with the mini chocolate chip cookie garnish. They were totally over the top, and made me think I’ve perhaps outgrown my sweet tooth just a little bit when it comes to things like this.
  • Here’s my regular recipe round-up for the month:
  • Stuff I made from the archives: Santa Fe Salad, Shawarma Stuffed Peppers, BBQ Salmon Tacos, Eggplant & Tomato Stew
  • Some of my favourite go-to dishes: A few things from my Cookie + Kate Cookbook (Taco Salad, Greek Nachos)
  • New things that I tried and liked: nothing new that I liked this month!
  • Homemade Snacks: Pecan Pie Energy Bites, Peanut Butter & Banana Muffins

Other non-foodie things I was obsessed with:

  • I was so excited for the Usher Super Bowl halftime show and he DELIVERED!!!! But Beyonce then stole his thunder by releasing two new songs and announcing Act II once it was over, and I have thought of nothing else since. Can’t wait to hear the Queen’s take on a country album next month.
  • The first few episodes of Love is Blind have been fab, and I think/hope we have a return to form after the dumpster fire of last season.
  • I read two books I loved this month: Come and Get It and A Love Song for Ricki Wilde. I also read half of King: A Life, which is almost 800 pages long, so I’ll finish that in March.
