I consider myself to be very against any pairing of fruit and chocolate. Orange + chocolate = repulsive. Raspberry sauce pooled underneath or drizzled across a molten chocolate cake? Nope. Chocolate covered raisins? Oh, hell no. The only exception I make to this rule is a chocolate dipped strawberry, which I do find quite tasty.......
I first made this pie six years ago to bring to a BBQ at my friend Libby’s house, and have been thinking about it every summer since! I finally re-made it to bring to another BBQ with my friends Krishna & Weedy, using freshly picked strawberries from Stonehaven Farms. It was both the best looking......
While my favourite summer fruits are strawberries and peaches, blueberries take a bronze medal just because they’re so low maintenance. All they need is a quick rinse and they’re good to go, which I love (although I do find hulling strawberries oddly therapeutic). I saw this Blueberry Pecan Galette on Bon Appetit last summer and......
Since my overall rhubarb inspiration was lacking this year, I decided to re-visit another stunner from the archives with this Strawberry Rhubarb Tart with Brown Butter Crumble. Back in 2011, I made this for Father’s Day, and my parents said it was the best thing I had ever made. I made it again for Father’s Day......
Every Oscars feast must end with a delicious dessert, and for the past couple years I’ve been in the habit of making a pie. Last year was this epic Salty Honey Pie that I’d been dying to try, and this year I decided on a Crème Brûlée Pie I’ve had bookmarked for ages. This pie is......
I first made this pie way, way back in my pre-blog baking days. It was probably around 2004 or 2005, and while I don’t remember if I made my own pastry or not, I definitely know that I made it with canned peaches. After making Rhubarb Custard Pie in 2014 and Blueberry Custard Pie in 2015, I knew......
This is the only recipe that was on my strawberry agenda for this Summer. I’ve flipped past it in The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook so many times, but it wasn’t until Danielle made them a couple months ago and sent me a picture that I became obsessed. She made them in little mason jars, and I......
I’ve seen this recipe for Salty Honey Pie on so many blogs over the past few years, and have always been intrigued by it. It sounded kind of weird, but kind of like Crack Pie, but also maybe like a butter tart with honey instead of corn syrup. When Kristine and I went to Cake......
While I may not have figured out my signature summer cocktail just yet, here’s my Summer Sixteen signature dessert. I made this two weeks in a row, and considering I hardly every make the same thing twice, it automatically qualifies. This is what’s happening in this four layer party in a pie plate: Graham cracker......
Last December I made a bold declaration on this here blog of mine: I was done with apple pie. I had finally had enough after making Saveur magazine’s Salted Caramel Apple Pie for Christmas, and was ready to put that out into the world. I often have trouble with pie in general, mostly because I......
